Drivers.

Post by Tim Fortin »

Hoping for some decent opinion from seasoned steel players here.

My current practice setup is milk ox compressor->Fender Princeton 112. I am a perpetual tinkerer, and have been liking the Princeton, but wanting to dial out some of the shrillness those 90s solid state fenders can have.

My idea is to swap the driver in the Princeton for something a little more mid heavy, with less tinny shrillness. I used to have a cannabis Rex in a tweed Princeton clone and I remember that being pretty nice for regular 6 string.

Curious what you all like for speakers. The range for a steel is different than for a 6 string so I am looking for advice on it.

My other idea is to make a new cabinet box and make it a 1x15 combo, but I’m not sure I am that ambitious currently.

EQs are great and I should dig mine out and hook it up. But I’m specifically asking about speaker/driver suggestions.
