He was the real deal. A genuine soul/R&B singer that could raise the hair on the back of your neck. I saw him two ot three times live. Once with Ray Charles full band behind him. This kind of talent is just not being aloud to exist today. He was a good friend of Sam Cook when he was alive. Thanks Lou for all the great music.

He also had a foundation for that raised millions of dollars with the proceeds going towards education.

I saw him tooling around LA a couple times in a Rolls Royce with a personalized plate that said
"C'est Lou"

I always thought(and still do) that Lou Rawls was living proof that you don't have to dress like Ronald MacDonald and speak like English is your third language to be cool and hip.
He was cool, hip and a class act, all the way. Lou Rawls spoke with intelligence, sang with a ton of soul and left big shoes to fill.

Lou and his entourage were at Kona Village at the same time my wife and I were there in !978. They were on vacation but I recognized Lou in disguise. He and I sat ubder the palms and had many a conversation. I guess the lady that was with him was not his wife at the time. Press releases say that his wife of two yrs was at his side when he died. CC

Does anybody else remember seeing a very young Lou Rawls as a singing cowboy on Bonanza? I remember thinking how strange it seemed, but also how great he sang.

Lou moved here to Phoenix a few years ago, and he immediately got involved in community charities. By all accounts, he was not only a great talent but also a great guy. Remember, too, that the guy scraped up $200 million for the United Negro College Fund.

A great talent. A bandmate and high school friend of mine, was Lou Rawls' full time piano player for many years. I was admiring a picture of them autographed by Rawls at a New Years Day party. Only a few days ago we were talking about that voice. RIP

Fairbanks, AK. Eileson AFB 1970. Our group did the dance sets, he did the show sets. "Natural Man" was so new, he wasn't even doing it yet. We turned him onto Sweet's bar-b-q and when we got there after the gig, he was just leaving with a doggie bag. He took pix with us and was a very nice man. Great singer. Did anybody ever hear is "Soulin'" album? It was a theme piece where one song ran into the next. I think it may even have been before Sgt. Pepper????

I'm not particularly aware of the great catalogue of the stuff Lou recorded over the years.
I just know how I feel when I hear "Love is a Hurtin' Thing." If he'd never recorded anything else, that one song would have assured him a place in somebody's hall of fame.
