I Can't Keep You In Love With Me

Post by Rick Campbell »

I haven't posted anything here in a while. It was too hot in East Tennessee to work outside and I needed an excuse anyway, so I stayed in and recorded this country duet. Steel guitar, Telecaster, 2 fiddles, with my best efforts at a good country rhythm section. Used Band In A Box and MIDI along with the live instruments and vocals. Recorded audio with Presonus Studio One. Video is edited with Movavi Video Editor.

Hey Rick, Very Nice! You and your twin brother are good musicians and vocalists. And, you know what real country music sounds like. I enjoyed your music!

Thanks for the compliments. The rest of the band says "thanks" as well. I know this forum, and steel shows, cater to steel guitar instrumentals. That's not what I do. My music is intended to be country music, with the live sound like you would have heard on the Grand Ole Opry in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. It's just a fun thing that I do. Learning the technology to do the multitrack recording and video, playing the instruments, figuring out the vocal harmonies, camera/microphone placement, and putting it all together is challenging, but satisfying. Actually. It's not rocket science and it's pretty simple once you understand the processes. Some people have asked that I do some instructional videos, or zoom type classes to detail how I do these. I don't know if there would be enough interest.

Some people think that I must have an expensive studio setup. Nope. The computer, software, hardware, cameras, microphones, etc... could be setup for $500-$1000. (Big bucks $$$$ in instruments not included) For audio alone, you can setup a studio with a package from the big box music stores for around $200. Most people already have a computer of some sort. If not, you can get a very capable laptop for $250. You don't need a $1500 MacBook to do this.

It's good mental exercise to do these. You have to keep your imagination working to be thinking about what other instruments would be doing as you play your current part. As we all know, playing on top of the lead player, or singer, is not good, but playing licks that compliment the other player is nice. Keeping track of this is essential to a professional song arrangement. Even though this is "just for fun", I try to make them follow tried and true band structure rules. I do better on some than others. LOL.

Do my recordings rival a good studio with a room full of pro studio musicians and singers? Of course not! That's not the intention. However, they do allow me to produce some of the music that I love without spending a fortune and scheduling is at my own pace and convenience. I hope people enjoying watching them, as much as I do making them.
